The festive season is upon us! The countdown is officially on, with exactly 27 days until Christmas.

And as we get closer to the big day, festive celebrations and events are starting to take place all over Darwin, bringing the spirit of Christmas alive.

If you’re thinking about attending some community events this festive season, here’s our list of some upcoming events.

Carols by candlelight (The Gardens, NT)

Event specifics:

If you attend one Christmas Carols in 2016, make it the carols at the Botanical Gardens. The carols will consist of an 80 strong choir, incorporating VoxCrox Darwin Youth Choir, Darwin Chorale, Sing Australia, and Indonesian Mission Church. The night will also include spectacular fireworks.

Goyder Square Christmas Tree Lighting (Palmerston City)

Event specifics:

Get the whole family together to see the Palmerston City’s Christmas Tree light up! There will be carols to sing along to, with the Darwin String Quartet and Palmerston local, Maddy Ryan.

The Goyder Christmas Tree holds a universal message - a special time of year, for sharing, hope, brother and sisterhood, and for celebration.

A Jazzy Broadway Christmas (Darwin City)

Event specifics:

The Darwin Chorale are set to bring Broadway to Darwin. Featuring Christmas-inspired songs from Broadway musicals like ‘Elf’, ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ and ‘The Sound of Music’, the show also incorporates songs from Monty Python’s Spamalot. Songs by Billy Joel and Elvis Presley are also highlights.

Book a table and a dinner package - drinks for purchase during the show. With over 60 singers and a 7 piece band, you won’t want to miss this one!

Christmas in the Mall - Santa’s Magic Cave

Event specifics:

Santa Claus will be taking time out of his busy schedule to come visit the children of Darwin. With loads of fun activities, including Fun in the Parks, balloon artists, crafts and photos with Santa!

Santa Fest at The Darwin Waterfront (Darwin City)

Event specifics:

Grab your swimmers and get down to the Santa Fest at Darwin’s Wave Lagoon! The whole family will enjoy a disco party and dance competitions, Christmas crafts, loads of beach balls, and Christmas treats from Santa! Santa will also make an appearance at precinct restaurants and cafes.

Venue: Darwin Waterfront, Darwin NT

Cost: Normal entry fees apply to the Wave Lagoon

Suitable for: People of all ages

New Year’s Eve at the Waterfront

Event specifics:

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Darwin’s Waterfront from 5pm, with a free outdoor concert and fireworks at 9pm and midnight. So get out the picnic rug and camping chairs and enjoy a full evening of entertainment.

This year’s schedule:

  • Howard & Sonsfireworks displaysat 9pm and midnight.
  • Family fun from 5pm to 9pm, including Hoot and Hootabelle shows, local live music and face painting.
  • Local retailers and food stalls will be trading for dinner. This is an alcohol and glass free event.
  • Live Diesel concert from 9.30pm, performing crowd favourites.
